WELLCOME HOME(TM) WELLNESS - An integrated wellness program for orphan, foster and adopted children

While in China we met with the orphanage director and other officials to discuss the needs of the orphan children. Donations allowed us to purchase an air conditioning unit for the infant rehabilitation room. Many infants that have been institutionalized for the first year of their lives suffer from fine and gross motor delays and have nutritional deficits. Some babies have attachment difficulties. Many babies adopted from other countries have communication difficulties because of the language barrier that exists. Some babies have sensory integration problems. With proper nutrition, love and care these infants thrive and flourish in their new loving home. Many babies in China survive on congee (watery rice) for the first year of their lives. The formula given to these babies is of substandard nutritional quality.

In the summer of 2009 our Kids Care mission team will travel to Jiangxi & Jiangsu China to introduce this program to orphanage directors, caregivers and foster families. We will do this through our interactive, hands on workshops and training DVD. We will pilot this program in China and find out how GCA can help to improve the quality of life for the children. We will thoughtfully share our cultural views with the Chinese people. Our goal is to help support the Chinese people and help them to help each other to be more successful. We also desire to learn more from them so that we may help our Chinese adopted daughters. If your group would like to join us on this missions/cultural exchange trip please contact MaLeesa Meyers at 480-290-1372 for more information.

Wellcome Home(TM) Wellness DVD will be helping adoptive parents to improve the overall health of their new baby. Click here to find out more!

SIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Global Child Advocates is a Certified Training Center for Baby Signs® and is utilizing their amazing products to help adoptive families to bond and communicate with their children. Sign Language is an important part of our orphanage wellness program as we plan to teach children in orphanages sign language so that they may communicate with any family, from any country, speaking any language after adoption! Please check back soon as we will be selling Baby Signs® products to help us raise funds to support this program.

The Baby Signs® Program helps babies communicate what they see, what they need, and even how they feel. Child development experts Dr. Linda Acredolo and Dr. Susan Goodwyn at the University of California have spent over 20 years evaluating the effects of signing on infants' development.

Funded by the National Institutes of Health, their research has shown positive benefits for both language and cognitive development. Benefits include:

  • Reducing frustration.
  • Helping babies talk sooner.
  • Decreasing aggressive behavior.
  • Increasing respect for babies.
  • And promoting early literacy.

The Baby Signs Institute continues the support of research focused on the impact of signing with hearing babies. The Institute also develops curricula and certifies a network of instructors across the globe who teach about the Baby Signs® Program through the Baby Signs® Parent Workshop and through Sign, Say & Play® Classes, theme-based classes offered through 6 week sessions and designed for parents and babies to attend together. The Baby Signs® Early Childhood Educator Training helps child development professionals bring the benefits of signing to their classrooms and agencies-benefits such as reducing frustration, decreasing aggressive behaviors, and promoting more observant and responsive interactions with children.

The Baby Signs® Program is the Original sign language program for hearing babies. Today, it is the world's leading program because it is the only program that has been tested through scientific research, was developed specifically for hearing babies, was created by child development experts, provides flexibility to meet the needs of any family, and has a full range of signing resources.

KIDS CARE Cultural Communications

We believe that kids CAN change the world. Our group moto is "We all smile in the same language!"

This group is for kids about kids. It is also for parents and educators of American and Chinese children. The purpose of the group is to engage American and Chinese children in communication and interaction through on line dialog. This dialog will help our children to appreciate, communicate, understand, and care for other races/cultures. This program is designed to introduce American children and Chinese children so that they may learn from each other, and build strong friendships based upon acceptance and understanding.

This group is for children ages 6-13 and their parents, caregivers or teacher.

In this group we share cultural information with the children to help expand their minds, improve their language, reading, and writing skills. It is also our desire to instill in the children a spirit of giving back, and encourage them to help other children in need. When parents, children, and educators unite together we CAN do amazing things!

SENIORS UNITED IN LOVE

We work with senior citizens and give them the opportunity to make a difference too! Age means nothing... helping another human being is everything!

Seniors have the years of wisdom to know what matters most in life. Many seniors will tell you that family and love are the most valuable things is life. When you have time to reflect, you come to understand that we are all family. We are all human beings and we all need to feel loved.

We work with senior centers, retirement communities and other elder organizations and involve seniors in making crafts, paintings, ect. All of the items are made with love by our senior volunteers. These items are then sold to help OUR children around the globe.

We are excited to inform you that our first Seniors United in Love for Kids event was successful! We raised enough money to begin our Integrated Wellness video project! A large percent of every video sale will allow us to help the children in orphanages and here at home in foster care.

To find out more information about our event Host Sponsor Freedom Inn (beautiful residential senior community) or other ARC locations go to their website at www.arclp.com

GCA YAHOO GROUP

The GCA Yahoo group is unique in that we support families that have biological children AND children through adoption. Sometimes biological children feel forgotten during the adoption process. Adoptive parents must go through the never ending paper chase process, planning process, travel and bonding process. It is the goal of this group to acknowledge our biological children and let them know that we are proud of them. They are real heroes for opening their hearts and homes to their new sibling.

This Yahoo group serves as a gathering place for support and sharing information. This forum is also used for biological children to share their thoughts and feelings about having a new sibling through adoption. This is a place where children can make friends, offer advice to others and suggest play date ideas for the group.
